Exmouth Beach Wheelchair Service will be closing for the winter on October 31st 2023 and will re-open in the Spring of 2024.

The service is provided by Exmouth Town Council from a purpose-built unit on Queens Drive, Exmouth, near the Lifeboat Station and provides specially adapted beach wheelchairs for use by residents and visitors.

This service is free of charge, although donations are welcomed. This year has seen the service in high demand, with 173 bookings from April until October. The service  have been pleased to welcome users from local residential homes, community groups and schools as well as visitors and residents of Exmouth and our surrounding towns and villages.

The office will be closed from November 1 to enable routine repairs and maintenance of the office and wheelchairs to be carried out. The online booking facility will remain open to accept bookings for 2024. Email beachwheelchairs@exmouth.gov.uk

Councillor Pauline Stott, who championed for the beach wheelchair scheme said: “I would just like to thank all the volunteers that have helped out this season. It has been lovely to see the nursing homes using the facilities and to see families and friends enjoying the beach together. Also, a big thank you to Mollie who has coordinated all the bookings and volunteers for the season. If anybody would like to volunteer for 2024, then please let us know.

"The service could not operate without our wonderful team of volunteers who make sure that our users have an enjoyable and friendly experience and we remain indebted to them all for their commitment."
