The RNLI were tasked to a report of a drifting rowing boat off Exmouth seafront on Thursday night, (October 26).

The charity's inshore lifeboat was launched following reports of a drifting 10 foot rowing boat close to shore near the Octagon. They were assisted by the Coastguard Rescue team.

The boat launched at around 8pm to check on whether there were, or may have been, occupants on the boat and if it was a likely hazard to other water users.

The crew volunteers located the vessel at that location about a minute later a few metres offshore. There were no occupants on board.

Two of the lifeboat crew manually pulled the boat to the safety of shore and later liaised with the Coastguard Rescue Team.

The crew were satisfied that there the vessel had come adrift, that there had been no occupants on board.

Having successfully completed the tasking, the volunteers were stood down by H.M. Coastguard and the lifeboat was then made ready for service a short time later.
