Gorst Energy, in Clyst St Mary, welcomed the 3rd Exmouth Cub Group for a tour of the plant and to learn about renewable energy production.
The company offer tours and open days for people to see their anaerobic digestion (AD) facilities. It produces biogas through the breakdown of agricultural feedstocks including farm waste, food production by-products and sustainably grown crops. The biogas is processed to generate renewable gas and electricity.
Renewable energy is put directly into local networks, so it avoids the reliance on imported fossil fuels that have caused so many problems since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The facilities supply organic fertiliser to local farmers, reducing their need to import artificial fertilisers. This helps to mitigate recent large price rises and greatly lowers their carbon footprint.
