Home Instead East Devon has been named Employer of the Year at the 2023 Exmouth Business Awards.

The Home Instead team has seen their Care Professional cohort increase by over 10 per cent this year. The company have also secured a ‘5 Star Employer in Care’ rating once again, following an annual independent survey of employees, by WorkBuzz.

Tracy Kirk, Home Instead recruitment coordinator said: “We want our colleagues to feel valued, encouraged, and secure – those are the things that matter and that’s what we focus on. The chance to develop is also important, which is why our Career Pathways scheme has been such a success. Currently, over 20 percent of our team are completing fully funded specialist courses and qualifications. Our Age-Friendly Employer Pledge, Menopause Supporter scheme and commitment to being Disability Confident are vital, too.”

With regards to this achievement and on behalf of the Exmouth Chamber of Commerce, chair, Laura Woodward-Drake said:  “Employer of the year is a fantastic category to uplift business owners and managers for their hard work in creating a community. All finalists were great examples of positive workplaces and a clear consciousness from the business to go above and beyond to support their teams.”

“Having read the judges’ comments on Home Instead Exeter & East Devon, it was clear that their application highlighted the efforts they go to, to attract, train and support staff. All involved at Home Instead should be very proud of the community they have created.”

Home Instead owner/director Vanessa McGlade added: “We encourage those looking for care and careers to discover why we are different, because we really feel that we are! Social care doesn’t always receive the praise or positive press that it deserves, and our goal has always been to showcase the value of allowing literal time (through our one-hour minimum visits) to provide truly relationship led care. We also want to demonstrate that our local community is a caring one where later life wellbeing really matters, by engaging with the public and local organisations via our free community workshops and events, such as the Ageing-Well Information Day in Budleigh on 20th October.”

“We must also congratulate our very worthy co-nominees in this category for their success and give sincere thanks to the Chamber of Commerce for a fantastic awards evening and their ongoing work in connecting our local business community."
