Exeter Road Shell garage wanted to build a giant totem pole advertising their new EV charging points.
East Devon District Council has refused the planning application saying it is 'inappropriate in scale and would 'detract from the character area and street scene as well as 'excess level of illumination.'
Plans were approved in April for the garage to build eight new EV charging points at the back of the garage. The site has an existing totem (5m) beside the garage and plan was to install an additional illuminated 7m totem sign beside the existing sign advertising the new charging points.
