Exmouth councillors have objected to plans for a new community sports centre at Warren View sports ground.

Councillors have recommended that the plans are refused. They discussed the plans on Monday, July 31.

Councillor Fred Caygill said at the meeting that he supports these plans. He said: "I'm here to give my support to this application, membership to the club has grown over the years but has had to be restricted. This new proposed building would not only benefit the club but for the wider community."

Lots of reasons why the plans should be rejected were raised at the monthly planning meeting.

These include concerns about an increase in traffic, insufficient parking facilities, noise, light pollution, risk of flooding, claims the design is not in keeping with the neighbourhood and a negative impact on wildlife.

There were 17 people in support of the plans and 42 representatives against the plans.

Exmouth Amateur Boxing Club has submitted a planning application to East Devon District Council to build a new boxing gym and community sport building at Warren View Sports Ground Halsdon Avenue Exmouth. Access to the new building will be via the existing road leading to the Exmouth Town Football Clubhouse.

The building, just East of Halsdon Playing Fields will have two floors with a three-ring boxing gym at ground level and a gym on first floor. The application says: "The proposal would be able to host large championship events in Exmouth which, at this scale, would be the one only of its like in the southwest and would be able to host national events, attracting high-level amateur boxing competitions and training programs to Exmouth.”

The first floor will have a multi-functional gym space, male and female changing rooms with a separate classroom for training events. A car parking area would have 29 parking spaces, three disabled spaces, three EV car spaces and seven bike parking spaces.

East Devon District will have the final say on the plans. Read the full planning application on the EDDC website 23/1480/MFUL
