East Devon has seen a downpour of torrential rain and flash flooding yesterday afternoon (Tuesday, May 9).
Parts of Sidmouth, Tipton St John and Newton Poppleford were most affected by heavy rain and the River Otter bursting its banks.
Newton Poppleford was 'impassable' after heavy flooding during rush hour (5pm) yesterday.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service were called to help pump flood water away from homes in Tipton St John and Newton Poppleford.
Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service tweeted this advice to people planning to drive arond East Devon this evening.
The towns affected are still suffering the fall-out of the heavy rain yesterday. But the Met Office Yellow weather warning has now been lifted for East Devon.
We have been receiving calls from people stuck in flood water.
- Never drive through flood water.
- Don't make unnecessary trips.
- Vehicles can become stuck and even swept away in just 30cm of flowing water.
