Artist Julia Gash co-founds new print studio in Exmouth

Grace’s Giclee Art Print Shop is run by Grace Middleton, who joined Julia’s business in Exmouth as an apprentice in 2020.

Although Julia now lives in Sussex, she and Grace have joined forces to set up a print studio at Exmouth Business Centre, enabling artists to turn their work into prints, postcards and greetings cards, and providing business consultancy and admin support.

Julia, whose map-like illustrations of towns and cities are sold all over the world, knows all about developing and marketing a brand. Grace is also an artist, producing abstract and observational work. As Julia’s apprentice, Grace became her right-hand woman, printing, packing and shipping orders around the world as well as improving Julia’s online retail systems.

Giclée printing uses colourfast inks that are finely sprayed onto high-quality paper, making professional-looking reproductions of the artwork. The business offers a framing service for the prints and ‘drop shipping’ – sending the finished product directly to the customer.

Between them, the pair say their expertise in every stage of the printing, marketing and shipping process frees up the artist to focus on their creativity.

Julia said: “Our ability to understand and assist artists and artisans in creating prints, postcards and greeting cards that sell, as well as providing guidance and the digital work to improve their online shops, is second to none.”

Grace said: “It is our job to enable other artists and illustrators to create an income from their artistic talent by handling the printing and logistics for their online art print orders. It is a pleasure for us to see their digital artwork files come to life.”

Julia added: “With more time to produce art and with Grace busily printing my work, we both got back to doing what we love and know.”
