A concert at St Peter’s in Budleigh Salterton ‘raised the roof’ – along with £800 in donations towards the church fabric fund.
The Exeter Temple Salvation Army Band & Songsters performed the spring concert, organised by Malcolm Jones, at the church on Saturday, March 25.
Deputy church warden Pat Rogers described it as ‘a rousing yet thoughtful performance’.
He said: “From the startling flashes of light and drum beats of the opening, to the calmer notes of the closing ‘The Day Though Gavest’, the large audience were rapt.
“A cornet solo, the songsters, a quartet and an energetic timbrel demonstration with ‘flourishes’ added variety and interest.
“The show, in aid of the church fabric fund, produced £800 but almost resulted in adding to any required repairs, as performers and audience raised the roof!
“We were all reminded of the values of the Church as well as being entertained. A retiring collection for the earthquake disaster fund raised £168.”
