Military students at Bicton College have set themselves a 4x4x48 challenge - where students and staff will be running four miles, every four hours, continuously for 48 hours.

Students at the Military and Protective Services (MaPS) course at Bicton College are undertaking the David Goggins 4x4x48 challenge. They aim to raise £2,300 and have already raised £1,000 towards the target.

The event begins at 3pm on Tuesday, February 28 and the final run will set off at 11am on Thursday, March 2.

Each team member will have only one hour to complete each race.

All funds raised will be going directly to the RNLI, via a joint fundraising pot.

A spokesperson said: "With one of our tutors being an RNLI volunteer, they find this topic to be rather close to home."

The team say they chose the £2,300 target because it will buy the RNLI 46 full tanks of fuel to power the crew to make a rescue, 92 pairs of gloves for the crew members, and could teach 460 children vital lifesaving skills.

Dougie Wright has been a volunteer member of the RNLI at Exmouth Lifeboat Station for more than three years and is qualified to crew on both the inshore and all-weather lifeboats. He has held several fundraising events for Exmouth RNLI including a CrossFit challenge.

This year as part of the wider fundraising campaign Dougie asked the students from Bicton College Military and Protective Services Academy to help plan, deliver and execute a physical challenge to help raise funds. They came up  with the 'four hours every 48 hours' challenge as a test of physical strength and stamina.
