Many of your readers may have noticed that over the past few months we have restarted our Organ Donor Sign Up Campaigns in Exmouth and wondered why?

The law changed in May 2020 to an Opt Out system and we all hoped that would result in more organs becoming available but this doesnt seem to be the case with families overturning the donor request.

Being an organ donor is the best free gift you can give to someone, we are all keen to do our bit with recycling and this is another way that you cn recycle body parts.

Since April 2022, a total of 2274 patients have recived transplants thanks to the generousity of their owner but there are still 6881 in the UK of all ages waiting a transplant and unfornately many more are too ill to be put onto the transplant list.

The latest figures I have to date show 112 children are waiting a Kidney, 44 are waiting a Heart and Lung, 43 are waiting a Liver, 6 are waiting intestines, 3 are waiting a multi-transplant.

Please spare a thought over Christmas for all those patients of all ages who will be waiting that vital call to say a transplant is avialable and if it doesnt come it many be their Christmas with their families.

To raise awareness of this, we will be having our Sign Up campaign in the Magnolia Centreon Christmas Eve (Sat Dec 24) from 11am to 4pm so please come along and have a chat with us we will be there to answer questions you may have.

The other part of my fundraising is to raise funds for my late daughters research programme which I set up in her memory to help raise funds at the sign up.

I shall be running a draw, tickets will be £1 each. On Christmas Day I will be once again taking part in the Exmouth Christmas Day Swim and my form will be available if you would like to sponsor me.

Whatver you may be doing over the festive period, enjoy and stay safe.
