Home Instead Exeter & East Devon is offering a new role to 'older' employees who want to become care professionals.

Home Instead are keen to offer ‘older’ employees the chance to work in an exciting and rewarding role as Care Professionals.

According to East Devon District Council research, the average age of residents is 50.7, in comparison to the national average of 40.1. Home Instead welcomes the area’s older population and is keen to encourage job seekers aged 50 plus to consider working for the Company, whether they have previous care experience or not.

Home Instead Co-Owner/Director Mark McGlade said: “Having a multigenerational and diverse workforce is great for our business and benefits our valued clients hugely, as the pool of potential Client to Care Professional matches is then deeper. This enables us to achieve our goal of providing truly person-centred care and a rewarding experience for both parties. It’s all part of being an ‘officially outstanding in all areas’ care provider.”

“Colleagues of all age groups bring benefits to their role, and our older team members are absolutely no exception. They often have a wide range of life experiences. This sees them more likely to have faced testing times, challenges, and loss – often mirroring the circumstances of our clients.”

Judi, 79, is a Home Instead Care Professional who has worked in a variety of sectors across her career. Commenting on her role, she says: “I just love it. Really, what better role is there for me in my seventies? I am so bonded to my clients; I couldn’t possibly retire, and my family have given up encouraging me to do so. Plus, I work with some amazing colleagues who I consider to be friends. There’s just nothing I’d rather do.”

Vivienne, 71, is another Home Instead Care Professional, with a long and successful background in healthcare. She says: “My job fits beautifully around my life. I have my morning clients, I then head off to the beach to walk my dog or meet a friend for a coffee, and then I can check back in to work for my teatime visits, picking up extra ones if it suits me.”

Co-owner of Home Instead, Vanessa McGlade said: “We offer perks that over 50s are particularly keen to receive, such as adaptable schedules that fit around family lives. And that’s not to mention the support we offer with regards to menopause. We host ‘Menopause Meetup’ events for all staff to receive advice on how to address any challenges and have also created a menopause guidance booklet which has been circulated amongst staff, their families and beyond. We appreciate what over 50s bring to us, so it’s only right that we give something back.

“We were delighted to see Home Instead win a place on the Financial Times’ Diversity Leader list, higher than any other home care company in Europe. It’s a real credit to how much we embrace people of all demographics who come from various backgrounds. And given that we have been declared a ‘five star employer’ by independent employee engagement experts WorkBuzz, our diverse and age rich workforce are happy in their roles.”
