East Devon Conservertive MP Simon Jupp says he is backing Rishi Sunak to be the next Prime Minister.

In a tweet yesterday, (October 20) from Simon Jupp's Twitter account he said: "I accepted a position in government because I wanted it to work.

"Unfortunately, it didn’t. Rishi Sunak has already set out his stall to the nation. He’s got the experience needed to lead the nation & the knowledge to restore economic credibility. I’m backing Rishi Sunak for PM."

Simon Jupp tweeted the news soon after it was announced current Prime Minister Liz Truss has resigned after 45 days in office.

In a statement, Simon Jupp said: "The Prime Minister has taken the right and honourable step given the situation. The Conservative Party must now quickly unite around a new leader to continue to deliver for our great country."

The race is now on to find another Prime Minister within the conservertive party, which shoud be annunced next week.

People who could replace Liz Truss as PM include: Rishi Sunak, Penny Mordaunt, Boris Johnson, Kemi Badenoch and Suella Braverman.
