Otter Vale Friends of Hospiscare snapped up the opportunity to organise a fete at Cadhay House, with great success.

The group wanted to give the people of Ottery St Mary and the surrounding area a day of fun and local fundraiser for the area Toni Hiscocks told the Herald she thinks they achieved that.

The fete raised £5,800 for Hospiscare.

Toni said: “Thank you to everyone who came and helped us raise this fantastic amount.

“We were overwhelmed by the amount of volunteers who came forward and gave up their time to help this local charity.

“There were volunteers from Exeter, Exmouth, Honiton and all over the town. Thank you everyone of you.

“Thank you to all the entertainer and singers, all the Organisations and businesses in the town played their part too.”

Ottery Help Scheme provided a large teapot, a barbecue was loaned by the bowling club and Nancekivells provided gas. Tables and gazebos came from Ottery St Mary Town Council, the Pixie Day committee and The Institute.

Toni added: “Thank you to all the local businesses who very kindly donated draw prizes, gave us good deals on food, and displayed our posters, which you won’t have missed.

“It was a real community event to which people supported, in coming to. Thank you all for whatever part you played. We couldn’t have done it without you.

“Lastly we would like to say ‘thank you’ to Mr Rupert Thistlethwayte of Cadhay for allowing us to hold our Family Fete Fundraiser in the wonderful grounds of Cadhay, the gardens and borders looked spectacular.”

This event followed on the heels of a ‘jazz and cream tea on the lawn’ fundraiser hosted by Sheila Williams at Cold Harbour Farm House. Around £1,600 was raised.
