Exeter City Goalkeeper Jamal Blackman popped into an Exmouth hairdresser to meet fans and sign shirts.  

New signing Jamal took time out from keeping the goals out at St James Park to visit Enigma Barbers, in Church Street, on Thursday (September 8) in and met with fans who had gathered to see him, took photographs and autographs, as well as signing football shirts and footballs.  

Owner and Barber of Enigma Barbers, Theresa said: “We sponsored the match programme at Exeter City VS MK Dons and afterwards spoke to the club to try and arrange Jamal to visit the barbers sometime to meet fans.  

“He came down to visit us on Thursday and we invited some of the youngsters and locals. They ran home, grabbed their city shirts and excitedly came down to the shop to meet Jamal. It was a lovely afternoon and enjoyed by all. The shop was full.” 

Though he didn’t have his hair cut he visited the shop as the owners had sponsored the official match programme of the Exeter City v MK Dons, on September 3 at St James Park, which the Grecians won 1-0. 

Enigma Barbers is also sponsoring the Exeter City home match VS Oxford. On October 15. Kick off at 3pm. 

The 28-year-old Jamal Blackman signed with Exeter City during the summer break, on a one-year deal from Championship side Huddersfield Town last season.  

Jamal towered over other people at the Barbers, he is 6ft 6in tall. Blackman has had an extensive career both in the Football League and internationally, having spent time at Ostersunds of Sweden, Vitesse in the Netherlands, and Los Angeles FC in the MLS.  

A product of the Chelsea youth academy that he joined at 13, Blackman was ever-present in their FA Youth Cup title in 2012. His first senior loan was at Middlesbrough before he made 12 appearances in Sweden. He also had successful loan spells at Bristol Rovers and Rotherham United before a permanent switch to the United States, last September. 

Theresa added: “We have been fans of Exeter City for years now and we thought it would be nice for people to come in and meet the new player. It caused quite a stir outside; people saw what was going in and then popped in.”
