Three local churches have opened books of condolence in memory of the Queen, and are offering ‘a calm and quiet place’ for people mourning her death.
Littleham Parish Church, the Holy Trinity Church in Exmouth and Lympstone Parish Church will all be open from 9am until 5pm every day until the State Funeral on Monday, September 19.
The Rector of the Holy Trinity Church, Rev’d Steve Jones, said: “We anticipate that the news of the death of the Queen will hit people hard, particularly after our losses through Covid, and the anxiety caused by the current energy crisis.
“We are opening our churches to offer people a calm and quiet place to just be, to reflect, and come to terms with this huge change for us all.”
Visitors to all three churches will be invited to use the books of condolence to record their thankfulness for the Queen’s decades of public service, and to use the peaceful surroundings ‘to mourn, to think, to remember, and to pray’.
