Lifeguard Joe Haines spent Sunday training with Exmouth Beach Rescue Club.
The group spent the training session practising to rescue unconscious swimmers using specialist equipment.
Joe Haines said: "A rescue board is one of the key rescue tools for a lifeguard. It is a lot quicker to paddle a board out to someone than swim out to them.
"It is also often quicker to paddle a board to a casualty that is close in to shore than launch a jet-ski or boat.
