Exmouth library to close during refurbishment

EXMOUTH Library will temporarily close its doors in November while a month of refurbishment is carried out.

The town's library will be closed while the inside of the building is painted throughout and new carpet is fitted.

At the same time the staff have designated a new area for the genealogy and local history books.

The library, in Exeter Road, closes from Monday November 2 and reopens to the public on Monday November 30.

During the closure period a mobile library will be next to the main library for the borrowing and returning of books.

The mobile service will operate between 9.30am and 5.30pm, Monday to Friday, and from 9.30am until 4.30pm on Saturday.

Library users who rely on computer access are invited to go along to neighbouring Budleigh Salterton, Topsham and Exeter libraries, where they can also borrow books.

Carole Burgess, manager of the county council's East Devon libraries, said the refurbishment was a mammoth task because it relied on the packing up of all the books.

She said the painting of Exmouth library's high ceilings meant the facility had to close for the duration of the refurbishment to protect the public.

The work is expected to freshen up the interior of the library, while rearranging book sections will make the facility easier to use.

Ms Burgess said: "None of us working here can remember it being decorated throughout before. It's only been decorated in smaller areas.

"Public response has been positive and they are very pleased for us.
