I am bitterly disappointed that the new administration at Devon County Council has chosen not to proceed with the purchase of the Rolle College site in order that it may continue to be used for educational purposes.
I am bitterly disappointed that the new administration at Devon County Council has chosen not to proceed with the purchase of the Rolle College site in order that it may continue to be used for educational purposes. I also find it utterly bizarre it has blamed the previous Liberal Democrat council.
There is a desperate shortage of space at our community college. There is actually a shortage of seating space for some post 16 classes.
Plans to extend the school leaving age to 18 and supply more vocational training leaves the college with an urgent need for more accommodation. That there is a superb educational facility close by and currently unused is a tragedy. That one county councillor described it as a 'white elephant' was disgraceful. He clearly knows nothing of the needs of Exmouth Community College.
The 3 million earmarked for the redevelopment of Exmouth Strand Gardens should be rechannelled to purchase the Rolle College site. The Strand plan is an unnecessary luxury, which does not have overwhelming popular support, whereas the needs of the community college are a necessity.
