It's friendly rivalry down at the Fish and Chip Shop in Budleigh Salterton with Premier Cafe proprietor Simon Blissett and part-time assistant Rebecca Clark in rehearsals for different pantomimes taking place in January.

Back in February 2007, Simon and Rebecca appeared together in the last Salterton Drama Club pantomime The Grand Old Duke of York, directed by Mary Mulcahy, with Simon as Dame Martha Muffett and Rebecca as second principal boy, Jack. I played the Grand Old Duke and it was a real pleasure to act with Simon and Rebecca.

On Saturdays January 16 and 23, at 2.15 and 7.15pm, 16-year-old Rebecca is playing principal girl Princess Jasmin in the newly-formed Budleigh Salterton Community Entertainers' panto Aladdin at the town's Public Hall with profits to Budleigh Age Concern.

From Wednesday to Saturday, January 20 - 30, Simon will be in some new frocks as Dame Ditty, the singing teacher in the Exmouth Players panto Little Tommy Tucker at the Blackmore Theatre.

There is no animosity between the two thespians, who had great fun in The Grand Old Duke of York and Simon has already bought his ticket to see Aladdin.

Tickets for Aladdin, directed by Steve Andrews, are available from The Card Shop in Budleigh High Street, or from Jenny Nicholls - telephone: (01395) 446415.

Tickets for Little Tommy Tucker, directed by Mary Mulcahy, go on sale at the Magnolia Kiosk, Exmouth, from Saturday, December 12.
