I am appalled at the recommendations for saving money that East Devon District Council is considering (Journal, December 17).
Some of them, like security lighting, would be a false economy because it is obvious that would encourage vandalism or worse. Instead of cutting back, we need to be employing more police to counter these problems.
We have a great many councillors. Perhaps if they each shaved a little off their allowances this would cover all the expenses.
Another saving would be to leave the Strand Gardens alone. Some traders have told me they stand to lose thousands of pounds during the disruptions and many people prefer it the way it has always been.
Exmouth needs to attract visitors to the town not deter them from coming. So encourage them by making the town clean and safe.
