I find Mr Gwilliam s letter in the Journal very interesting. The new dog control orders came into being on October 1 2009. Fixed penalty tickets of 80 for first offences.

As an owner of a dog, I don't mind complying with the orders. What I find immoral is East Devon District Council making special provision for the hunt, even without an exemption in the order, whilst others would still be expected to comply with the order, not having more than six dogs and having to have them on leads on the highway and public places like Ottery St Mary.
This is where you will find that our democracy is still fragile, as this privileged group has managed to have each and every law - ancient and modern - groomed to protect hunters from prosecution for offences which, if committed by lesser mortals, would result in them being arraigned before a court.
What is good enough for the hunt is good for any other member of the public.
