EXMOUTH CID officers are appealing for help tracing the person in this CCTV image following an incident where a man brandished a handgun in a busy Exmouth town centre supermarket on Tuesday night.

Exmouth CID sergeant Jo Hall said the police are keen to hear from two people caught on Tesco’s CCTV who are yet to come forward, but who witnessed the incident.

Sgt Hall said: “It shows there were two members of the public when the offender left. I am trying to identify who those two people are as they are yet to come forward.”

Officers said the incident took place at Tesco Express, in Rolle Street, at around 9pm.

The police are appealing for anyone who was in the store, or who witnessed the raid, to contact them.

Exmouth CID sergeant Zoe Nowell said: "We would like to hear from anyone who saw someone wearing this type of clothing, or saw them the next day, or knows someone who purchased this type of clothing."

Detective Inspector Andy Munday said he was keen to hear from people who saw anyone acting suspiciously.

He said: "Although officers made a quick arrest, we are appealing for further witnesses to come forward."

Exmouth CID said the man they are keen to speak to was white, 6'2 - 6'3 tall, slim, an athletic build, had a Devonshire or Bristol accent, and spoke with quite a deep voice.

Officers said the man was wearing a dark woollen balaclava, a light grey, hooded top, with a motif, and black lettering across the middle of the stomach.

The man also wore Adidas tracksuit bottoms.

The police said he was wearing a pair of trainers that appeared new and extremely white - possibly Nike Airmax.

Witnesses are asked to contact the police by calling 08452 777444 and quoting crime reference: KE/10/198.
