EXMOUTH Community College has linked up with the police and fire authority to offer students a chance to gain an insight into life working for the emergency services.
The 11-week pilot initiative, which started last week, involves between 15 and 30 students who applied to become a cadet.
The youngsters will be given a uniform and receive four to five sessions with both the police and fire services.
Activities will include drills using breathing apparatus, working with the road policing unit and police investigation.
David Turner, assistant principal at the college, said this was an exciting development which taught youngsters about the important work undertaken by the emergency services within the community.
Mr Turner thanked Exmouth Town Council, who kindly supported this incentive along with colleagues from the police and fire stations.
Further support had been given by the East and Mid Devon Community Safety Partnership.
