MORE than 100 visitors enjoyed coffee and a festive mince pie to help celebrate the 85th anniversary of The Devon County Association for the Blind.

Guests at the public open day held at the association’s base at Station House in Topsham included Andrew Leadbetter, county councillor for the town, and Topsham crier Keith Smith.

Visitors got the chance to relive the history of this long established Devon charity with history boards whilst having the chance to learn more about the new and exciting plans for the future including a new resource centre.

Volunteers were on hand to give advice and demonstrations on how to use some of the latest visual aids and home gadgets for the visually impaired.

Martin Pallett, Director of services, Devon County Association for the Blind, said: “It was a marvellous Day and the number of local people who turned up surpassed all our expectations.”
