TOPSHAM’S police community support officer has expressed his concern after receiving reports of criminal damage to the bird hide in Bowling Green Road.

PCSO Richard Shelton said several incidents had taken place since August, including posters being set alight and benches being knocked over, preventing access.

“There was another incident recently, on November 24, where leaflets were being piled up on the floor and attempts made to them alight,” he added.

Mr Shelton said, along with Paul Vaughan, the local neighbourhood beat manager, he was in regular contact with the RSPC regarding the ongoing issues.

There are regular night time patrols taking place in the area as well, as a result of the spate of incidents.

He said: “We are regularly patrolling the area and response officers from Exeter are also aware of the location and problems being caused.

“Those responsible need to be aware that both the Topsham neighbourhood police team and the RSPB will not tolerate this sort of behaviour.

“Any offenders who are identified will be dealt with through the court system.”

Anyone with information should call Devon and Cornwall police, asking for Richard Shelton, on 08452 777444.
