Tributes have been paid to a woman who was killed by a train last week.

Shavaun Hannaford, a 44-year-old woman, from Whipton, was hit on a single stretch of rail track near Hill Barton Road, Exeter, last Friday, January 21.

The incident caused disruption to First Great Western services running to and from Topsham and Exmouth.

Several floral tributes have been left on the doorstep of her home.

One message, from her daughter, read: “To mum, we will all miss you so very much. I hope you are at peace, please look over us from where you are.”

“I love you very much, love, hugs and kisses Jaymi.”

A spokesperson from British Transport Police said: “BTP officers were called to the railway line near Hill Barton Road after a report of a person being struck by a train.

“BTP and Devon and Cornwall police officers attended alongside paramedics from the South Western Ambulance Service and a body of a woman was found at the scene.”

It is thought the woman commit suicide, though, officers are currently working to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident and how she came to be on the tracks.

A file will be prepared for the coroner.

An inquest into her death is expected to opened shortly.
