MORE than 4,000 will be spent by the town hall to improve paths servicing allotments
MORE than 4,000 will be spent by the town hall to improve paths servicing allotments in Exmouth after a pensioner fell.
A total of almost 400 plots are owned by the town council, across two sites at Hamilton Lane and Pound Lane, giving Exmouth one of the highest amounts for a town in the UK.
The Allotments Association has called for upgrades to three access paths at the Pound Lane site after an ‘elderly allotment holder’ fell because of the unevenness of the paths.
Work to resurface the paths and add hand rails will cost 4,600.
At the finance committee meeting on Monday, chairman Councillor Joy Whipps said: “We are the owners and we have responsibility.
“Somebody has fallen and we could be open to litigation.”
