The leader of the Lib Dems in East Devon, Withycombe’s Geoff Chamberlain, has thanked voters for their support.
While the party suffered huge losses throughout the country in the district elections two weeks ago the vote in East Devon held up.
The party slightly closing the gap with an extra councillor on the town council and two more at EDDC.
Cllr Chamberlain said: “Thanks to all those people who voted for their Lib Dem candidates in Exmouth, both for the Town and District Councils.
“Thanks to them we were able to buck the national trend. In fact overall in East Devon we made two gains from the Tories in East Devon. Independents took another two seats from the Tories.
“Our message to the public now is that we will continue to provide strong opposition to the Conservatives in the town and at EDDC.”
