CREAM TEA: Anyone in need of a refreshing cuppa and a scone at the start of Budleigh Gala Week is being invited to go to the Public Hall and help raise funds for a Devon cancer charity.

The Exmouth and Budleigh Salterton District Friends of Force cream tea takes place on the opening Saturday of Gala Week, May 25, with service beginning at 2pm.

The friends group said it was grateful to Gilbert Stephens Solicitors, Tesco and Otterton Mill for supporting the event.

PLANT SALE: East Budleigh in Bloom is holding a plant sale and spring fair.

It takes place at the village hall this Saturday at 2pm.

As well as plants, there will be stalls selling cakes, jumble, handmade cards, books, bric-a-brac and refreshments, and a raffle will be held. Admission will cost 50p.

HALL EVENT: Otterton Village Hall is holding a coffee morning.

The event, which is free to attend, is a chance to have a look at the hall’s new facilities and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee.

It is being held on May 23, between 10.30am and noon.

TALK: The latest meeting of Budleigh’s Anglo-French Society is taking place at the Masonic Hall on Monday at 7.30pm.

Virginie Evans will be giving a talk entitled Différences Culturelles. Visitors are welcome, and the admission price is £3.

GARDENERS: The Budleigh Salterton Garden Club met on April 26 at the football club in Greenway Lane to hear an enjoyable talk on ‘Perfect Partners’ by Jenny Short.

The next meeting of the club will be on May 31 at 2pm for 2.30pm, again at the football club, when Harry Colclough will give a talk entitled ‘Travels of a Happy Gardener’.

ABBA: Tickets are selling fast to see ABBA tribute band Dancing Queen on the opening night of Budleigh Gala Week.

The concert, which is being organised by Budleigh Salterton Carnival Club and Lions Club, takes place at the Public Hall, with doors opening on May 25 at 6.30pm.

There will be food – a ham and cheese ploughman’s followed by homemade apple pie and cream – and a licensed bar.

The entertainment will begin with a Wired for Sound disco and games before Dancing Queen take the stage.

Fancy dress is optional, and there will be prizes for the best costumes. Tickets cost £18, and are available from Julie Meredith on 01395 442067.

CANCELLATION: An event due to be held at East Budleigh’s Salem Chapel on the opening night of Budleigh Gala Week has been cancelled.

Wartime entertainers Blitz and Peaces were due to play a concert, but have had to cancel due to unforeseen circumstances.

CONCERT: The Budleigh Salterton Ladies Choir is holding its Spring Concert on May 23 at 7.30pm at the Temple Methodist Church in Lower Fore Street.

Tickets are £5.00 to include refreshments and are available at the door.

The choir’s guest will be flautist Jayne Hannah, and proceeds will go to Budleigh Salterton and District Hospiscare.
