Budleigh Salterton Library was packed with children and parents for a special wildlife workshop.
Jessica Lavelle, of Zoolab, brought some creepy-crawly friends to the venue, in Station Road, for the latest summer reading challenge event.
She used a mouse, a tarantula, a giant snail, a snake, a cockroach and a tree frog to tell the children stories.
Youngsters were also given the opportunity to touch the mini-beasts.
Those parents brave enough were also given the chance to get up close to the creatures.
Budleigh library’s supervisor said the event, paid for by Friends of Budleigh Library, was a huge success.
She said: “It was excellent and we had 35 kids and plenty of parents.
“We were jam-packed and the kids thoroughly enjoyed it.”
