Fernihurst Nursing Home, in Douglas Avenue, was visited for an afternoon by rabbits, chinchillas, guinea pigs and owls.

Home activities co-ordinator Hazel Tribble said the visit had therapeutic value for residents, and coincided with National Pet Month, which runs from April 1 to May 1.

She added: “Our residents simply adore animals – their faces always light up and today was no different.

“Everyone couldn’t wait to have a hold or a fuss – it was magical to see and the perfect way to celebrate National Pet Month.”.

“We regularly invite animals into the home as the therapeutic value of them is simply undeniable and our residents often find stroking animals, whether that’s a beautiful bunny or a tiny guinea pig, relaxing.”

Resident Joan Hill, 90, said: “They were such beautiful creatures.”
