Elderly residents in Budleigh Salterton have been given the chance to experience assisted sailing.
A trio who live at Bay Court Residential and Nursing Home, in West Hill, were given the opportunity to board the boat ‘No Excuse’ thanks to volunteer-run charity Sailability which receives funding from Exmouth Sailing Club.
Activities supervisor at Bay Court Annemarie Turner said the name of the boat was very apt, adding: “We don’t allow age to constrain us at Bay Court and endeavour to encourage our residents to ‘live life to the full’. These opportunities improve the mindset of the individual in so many ways. Most importantly, it keeps them connected and interested in a world where so many opportunities are no longer open to them.”
She thanked a ‘special crew’ and especially skipper Veronica Hart, helmsman Tim Leah and Rick Newcombe who ‘made all of this possible’
