The East Devon Rock Choir has held a charity concert to raise funds for Exmouth’s new deaf academy.

Members of the East Devon Rock Choir performed hits like ‘Footloose’ and ‘Can’t Stop the Feeling’ at a coffee morning held at Woodbury Village Hall, raising more than £940 in the process.

Sharon Brown, a member of the rock choir and British Sign Language enabler, also performed ‘Hallelujah’ in sign language to raise awareness.

She said: “When I heard the Deaf Academy was moving to Exmouth I was keen to find some way to support them.

“I was thrilled when The Deaf Academy was selected as the nominated charity for our coffee morning concert.”

David Wellbeloved of The Deaf Academy said: “To have support from an established organisation who are so prominent in the community is a huge boost to raising the profile and much-needed funds for our students at the Deaf Academy.”
