Voters in the Exmouth ward are set to go to the polls on May 6 to determine who should represent them on Devon County Council.
There are two seats available in this ward and the candidates are as follows:
Tim Dumper (Liberal Democrats)
Tim grew up in Exmouth, and returned here to live in 2004. A Governor at Exeter Road School, he has been an active town councillor since 2011, remaining supportive of Exmouth town centre. If elected, he hopes to continue to make an impact on transport in Devon - to improve and develop public transport, cycle paths and active travel routes. Tim would support Liberal Democrats' push to improve care services for those needing them.
Josie Parkhouse (Labour Party)
I am running because I love Exmouth community and am passionate about fighting poverty, inequality and creating a more sustainable future. I have worked for an MP which taught me a lot about serving the community, campaigning for change and cross-party collaboration. I promise to work my hardest responding to residents’ concerns and representing them. I have already spoken to hundreds of residents’ door knocking the last few weeks and there is a real appetite for change.
Michael Rosser (Green Party)
“I am now retired but previously worked as a social worker helping to support some of the most vulnerable in our society. I am an active town councillor and if elected to the county council, I will commit to supporting essential workers, including social care staff, making Devon an Even Better Place to Live in now and for future generations and reducing Devon’s carbon footprint.”
Richard Scott (Conservative Party)
“With other local Conservatives, we’re providing high-quality services for Exmouth, Lympstone, Exton, Woodbury and Woodbury Salterton while keeping council tax low. But there’s more to do. With your support, we’ll improve and protect the Devon economy. We’ll continue to support the elderly and vulnerable and all residents and communities. As we recover from the pandemic, we need a council that supports our recovery and communities, that has pro-active dedicated community councillors who know how to get things done.”
Jeff Trail (Conservative Party)
“Jeff Trail BEM. vice chairman DCC former Exmouth town mayor and Royal Marine. Resident of Exmouth with my wife and family since 1981. Founded Brixington Blues Youth Football Club 1983. Since elected as DCC Councillor 2017 I have been working extremely hard for the communities of Exmouth Rural Division. Latest achievements locally, secured 24/7 emergency fire cover and the appointment of the new Harbour Master and Crew plus the improvement of Highways and other major projects.”
Joe Whibley (Independent)
"I've worked in Education and Social Care for 22 years, and been a district and town councillor for the last two. I see daily the struggles schools have safeguarding the metal health of its youngsters. I want to push for funding to make Devon happier. We need to recover from Covid but in the right way - green, sustainably and resilient. I pledge to support all residents regardless of age, wealth, disability or sexual orientation."
Daniel Wilson (Labour Party)
"I would relish the opportunity to represent our community at the County Council. Incumbent councillors have done very little for us. I would work with intelligence and urgency to tackle big issues like environment, transport, education, local businesses, and the NHS, to everyday problems like littering, potholes, and residential parking. Josie and I are best placed to breathe new life into a stale council. Give us your vote and we will give you progress."
