ELEVEN new homes in Littleham have been backed by town hall planners.

Seagull Developments want to demolish the existing building and build a block of 11 flats.

Previously in May the town council refused a 14-flat development on that same site.

Developers were criticised for submitting plans one short of the 15 units required before they are compelled to add a percentage of affordable housing.

Neighbours' had concerns that too many flats may lead to an unacceptable strain on the already over-burdened sewerage system, leading to possible flooding.

The developers have agreed to contribute 27,705.15 towards local education provision at Exmouth Community College and The Beacon School, and an extra 2,392.50 for computer equipment.

Deputy mayor Sandy Sutton said; "I think the the objections to this development have been addressed. I would recommend approval."

Cllr Malcolm Mitchell said: "I welcome that the developers will be paying 30,000 to the county council for educational purposes."

The plans will now be considered by district planners.
