FRIDAY, July 25: DOES your community group or voluntary organisation need funding? This could be for anything from community wildlife gardens and telephone advice lines to sports coaches and transport costs, and much more besides.

DOES your community group or voluntary organisation need funding? This could be for anything from community wildlife gardens and telephone advice lines to sports coaches and transport costs, and much more besides. If so, did you know that you can apply to 'Awards for All' for the money you need?

Awards for All is a small grants scheme administered by the Big Lottery Fund which gives funding of between £300 and £10,000 to community groups and voluntary organisations, to enable people to take part in art, sport, heritage and community activities, including projects that promote education, the environment and health in the local community.

Out of £1,344,760 given to the South West by Awards for All in March, April and May this year, only £28,232 (or 2%) was granted in the East Devon area. This means that only five projects in East Devon were supported out of a total of 196 projects funded in the South West overall. East Devon District Council and East Devon Voluntary Support Agency are trying to raise awareness of this grant funding scheme in East Devon to try and make sure that people know about it.

Councillor Jill Elson, Portfolio Holder for Communities, said: "We would encourage community groups and voluntary organisations in East Devon to take advantage of this excellent opportunity if they do need funding. There have been some fantastic projects in the area that have already benefited but we want to see many more!"

Many different types of project can benefit from the Awards for All scheme. Axe Valley Heritage Association received funding to refurbish their storeroom and to buy special boxes and archive pockets to protect historic photos and documents; and funds allocated to Millwater School in Honiton enabled special needs students to take part in residential visits.

To be considered for a grant you will have to complete a simple Awards for All application form which comes with clear guidance notes. You can apply any time and you will be told if you have been successful within eight weeks. For more information visit www.awardsforall.org.uk
