Town councillors have agreed to donate £1,250 towards a community bus scheme which benefits residents in Budleigh Salterton.

The Exmouth and District Community Transport Group had applied to the council for a grant to help keep the service going.

Councillors this week voted in favour of donating £1,250. This is the same amount they donated to the scheme last year.

The group had asked the council to donate around £687 toward the costs of running the community transport.

In a letter to the council, Jill Elson, chairman of the group’s management committee, said: “We are all facing very stiff challenges in the coming financial year. We are very grateful for all your support over the last 25 years.

“We are preventing many people from being isolated in their own homes, enabling them to be as independent as possible and able to do their own shopping, meet friends or use our services for trips or lunches.”

The group now has three tail lift buses, all with the ability to take wheelchairs. The community bus has up to 16 seats.
