Plans to build five new homes near Exmouth town centre have been approved by district planners.

The plan, for terraced homes on a site in South Street, follows a previously approved application for five homes on the site in 2010, for which planning permission has now lapsed, and a subsequent proposal for eight homes, which was withdrawn.

The latest plan had drawn objections from Exmouth Town Council, which said it would be overdevelopment, and raised concerns about a lack of parking, and lack of amenities such as bin storage.

However, members of East Devon District Council’s development management committee voted to approve the scheme, in line with the recommendations of planning officers, who said there were no significant changes to the previously approved plan.
