Plans to build eight council flats in Normandy Close were withdrawn as a direct result of Exmouth Town Council’s opposition, district bosses have confirmed.

East Devon District Council applied to build the flats on the site of 24 and 26 Normandy Close.

Town councillors opposed the scheme at a planning meeting last week, saying they had fears about overdevelopment, and about the future of a green space at the site, which is used as a play area by neighbourhood children.

After EDDC decided to withdraw its application, a spokesman said: “In light of the fact that the proposal was not supported by Exmouth Town Council we have withdrawn it and will consider our options.”
