Revised plans to build new homes on part of the Famous Ship have been opposed by Exmouth Town Council.

The owners of the High Street business had obtained planning permission last year for three homes on the rear of the building, but are now applying to build four homes there, and convert two flats above the retail area into three.

However, town councillors at a planning meeting this week voted to oppose the new scheme, saying it would be overdevelopment, and that the proposed homes would have poor access.

Councillors also endorsed concerns raised in an East Devon District Council Environmental Health report, which said the homes would have limited space for amenities, and would be affected by noise and smells from the Famous Ship.

EDDC planners will now rule on planning permission.
