Plans to build 98 homes on the edge of Brixington have been rejected by East Devon District Council.
The council said the planning application for the site at Higher Marley Road – an outline application for access only – was not acceptable as it is outside Exmouth’s built-up area boundary, and does not have measures to ‘mitigate the impact’ of the development.
Exmouth Town Council had previously opposed the application.
