AN ecologically-aware Exmouth diving company are once again spending a day cleaning up rubbish like tyres, plastic bags and tin cans from the Exe estuary.

Jurassic Coast Diving in Royal Avenue, will once again take part in the AWARE campaign to battle marine debris on the International Cleanup Day on September 19.

Martin Hall of Jurassic Coast Diving said: "We have always wanted to keep our environment clean - for one thing it spoils our diving and for another it kills the fish and harms the environment."

The clean up will be both underwater and on the beaches and surrounding area and the data collected through the clean up will once again contribute to the Global Marine Debris Index - vital for monitoring how much rubbish is dumped into the sea.

In the 2008 Index, a reported 1.4 million plastic bags were collected on one day.
