Planned changes to the area around a listed building on the former Rolle College site have been supported by Exmouth Town Council.

An application for listed building consent, by the site’s owner Plymouth University, seeks permission to remove a potting shed and greenhouse, widen a breach in the boundary wall, and alter the entrance from Douglas Avenue near Eldin House.

This application ties in with Plymouth University’s proposal for a mixed use development including housing and community use at the site, which was supported by the town council in December.

Regarding the latest application, Councillor Bill Nash said: “These potting sheds have been derelict for decades and are falling down anyway, so no problem. The boundary wall gap is widening, but it’s being done extremely well.”

East Devon District Council will make the final decision on both the main redevelopment and the listed building application.

The site has been listed for sale by the university.

Community benefit society Rolle Exmouth Limited is attempting to build a consortium to purchase all or part of the site.
