East Budleigh hit six for the second week in a row with another fine display to defeat Beer Albion Reserves in the Devon & Exeter League Division 1.

Budleigh began on the front foot and took an early lead through Jack Howarth, whose deflected free-kick wrong-footed the visiting ‘keeper and nestled in the back of the net. Ten minutes later, Rian Hill doubled Budleigh’s advantage following a good long-range effort from Jack Greenslade.

The hosts were now fully in the ascendency and on 35 minutes it was three, when Matt Jones finished with confidence from close range following a Howarth corner.

Two further goals within five minutes of the restart saw Budleigh take advantage of mistakes in the visiting defence; Rian and Brad Hill were both on target before Hugo Demetre headed home a sixth from a James Bridge corner to complete the rout.

The player of the match award went to goal hero Rian Hill for the Jays who are in Senior Cup action at Bravehearts this Saturday.

The weekend got even better for the club, as East Budleigh Reserves won 4-3 at Elmore 3rds in Division 4.

Budleigh began slowly on what was a very heavy surface at Elmore and found themselves two down inside 15 minutes before they began to find their stride.

Nathan Penhallurick went close on a couple of occasions after good work from Ben Wilks and some incisive passing from skipper Ben Wiltshire.

The Jays were soon back in the game, as a good effort from Tom Christian squirmed away from the home ‘keeper and Wilks nipped in to score. The comeback was complete by half time when Dan Atkinson, who led the line well all match, scored a close-range overhead kick.

In the second period and as the pitch worsened, Budleigh took control. Slick passing and winning a loose ball allowed Wilks to complete his treble and the player of the match award with two opportunist strikes.

The Tiverton side pulled one back, but Budleigh saw the game out well to record the win. This Saturday, Budleigh host Exeter United in the league.
