Hundreds of swimmers descended on the seafront for the annual Christmas Day swim in the sea.

The event took place at 10am on Christmas Day on Exmouth seafront. Hundreds of swimmers donned their swimming costumes and Santa hats to brave the cold and take a dip in the sea.

Ros Wilson provided swimmers with body paint before they took a dip. She is in her 15th year doing this.

In previous years, Ros has come as the Grinch, a Smurf and in golden paint.

Steve Cornish told the Journal: "A brilliant swim this year! It was bizarrely comfortable standing on the beach in swimwear on December 25. This year was the third for me, my wife and my daughter, but were joined by my older brother and niece for the first time."

Both Exmouth RNLI boats supervised the event and marked the start of the event with a flypast across the seafront. Then it was a short run or jog to the sea and participants dived in to the freezing water.

A similar event also took place in Budleigh Salterton on Boxing Day, when hundreds of people from the town gathered and took a dip in the sea together.
