Budleigh Salterton Lions Club has become a sponsor of the Brixington Blues, Exmouth's longest-running youth football club.

The Lions have sponsored the away kit of the club's under-14s team, some of whom came to the Lions' latest monthly meeting to thank them for their support. With them was team manager Paul Cameron, team coach and club chairman Edward Wright, and club treasurer Lorraine Ralph.

The Brixington Blues provide youth football for around 250 young people in the local community, and the club is looking to start its first girls' team. The away kit is the first the under-14s team has had.

Budleigh Lions Club President Richard Allen said: "We were very pleased to have the opportunity to sponsor the Brixington Blues under-14s' away kit. Lions have a number of youth programs to support and encourage young people to develop life skills including our 'Young Leaders in Service' program. It was great to meet some of the team and I'm very much looking forward to seeing the new kit in action!"

Team manager Paul Cameron said: "Several of the team live in the Budleigh area, so this sponsorship feels like a great fit for the team."

Exmouth Journal: Budleigh Lions welcome new member Sue Glover

Meanwhile, Budleigh Salterton Lions have also welcomed their latest new member.

Sue Glover. Sue has already taken part in Lions activities including litter picking and helping at the Budleigh Community Supper evenings at Wesley's. She also volunteers at the Budleigh Community Food Larder.

Sue said: "I was delighted to be invited to join the Lions and to be able to meet such a friendly bunch of like-minded people who serve the local community.

"There are such diverse activities to choose from. So far I have helped at the community food larder and community suppers, litter picked, and walked the Exmouth Park run to raise awareness of diabetes. In the process there have been many cups of tea and friendly chats with fellow Lions!"

Club president Richard Allen said: "These are exciting times for Budleigh Salterton Lions Club. I am absolutely delighted to welcome our latest new member to the Club. Lion Sue has already made a difference in our local community and I am sure she will enjoy being a Budleigh Lion and make lots of new friends."
