SIMON ANDREW OLDHAM

SIMON ANDREW OLDHAM
OLDHAM Simon Andrew Empena [Diane] and Michael would like to offer their sincere thanks to all who have sent condolences, posted such heartening social media messages, knocked on our door and attended the crematorium, following the recent sad passing of our son Simon, younger brother of Suzanna and Christopher. After a lifetime of ill health, which he managed courageously, he died at his home on the Hampshire; Surrey border five days short of his forty sixth birthday, on October 30th last. Despite his medical burdens he led an interesting life. Always ready to opine on current affairs, plus historical ones, he had many interests and achievements. He was always ready to help too. Aware of his lineage he was proud of his Sarawak Iban and Baltic Russian roots. With Exmouth Community College he visited WW1 trenches only to later learn that a great grandfather fought [and survived, though injured] there. He liked sport. Everton was the club he supported. At one stage he managed a team, Withycombe paper boys first. Unfortunately one time, during a half time kick around, he was injured and his leg plastered. He was an avid Exeter speedway supporter for many years and, on the wider scene, a member of the Kenny Carter fan club. He was Exmouth Carnival Prince 1986. In latter years bridge was his forte playing creditably and tutoring all ages. His home contained many potted plants; the Brazilian Coffee ones have started a new life in Devon and early signs indicate they are happy here. We are also thankful to Funeral Directors, Richard W. Gegg and Sons, for their service and support at this difficult time and Mr. Martyn Dart for his long time friendship to Simon and, at the end, spreading the word so effectively.
