This week, the upstairs dining room of The Grove was turned into a temporary recording studio by local favourites The Exmouth Shanty Men.

With the kind permission of the licensees of the seafront pub, which is their usual practice venue on Tuesdays, they spent two evenings performing to an audience of invited friends and guests while recording the songs for their next album.

The recording was done by Paul Field of The Old Wheelwright’s Studio in Bovey Tracey and, with cover design by Ben at Copyrite in Victoria Road, there will be a deliberately local feel to the finished CD.

After some production work in the studio, the finished album will be officially launched during this year’s Exmouth Festival.

This will be their fourth album release and, with their previous ones already being available at several outlets in the town, this one too will be on sale later in the spring. All of their recorded songs are also now available as digital downloads directly from their website, for which expertise they thank another Exmouth business, their website designer, Flic, at Enca Development.

The recording evenings heralded the beginning of what looks like being another busy year for ‘Devon’s Original Buoy Band’ with a number of dates already on their calendar showing bookings ranging from smaller engagements to larger festivals and at least two short European tours.
