The Gateway, Seaton, has been celebrating being made Venue of the Week on the ‘Lemonrock Gig Guide’, out of 12,320 venues.

A spokesman for the venue at Seaton Town Hall, said: “With bands contacting us on a daily basis to play and considering many other venues are struggling... this speaks volumes!

“What was once classed as a White Elephant now commands audiences from not only Seaton but surrounding towns which in turn benefits the local bed and breakfasts as well as our community and visitors alike.”

Among the events on offer are youth evenings, a Dementia Café, sit ‘n’ get fit, and a chess club. The building is now being hired for private parties, weddings and other events.

The spokesman said: “What a start to 2012! Good news for Seaton. Without doubt, The Gateway or Seaton Town Hall is truly becoming the ‘Heart of the Community’ just as predicted by those who felt the passion and understood the potential of such a beautiful building and the people of Seaton.

“Now known for ‘top quality music’ and excellent friendly atmosphere, quality of service and food when required, we are extremely proud of our venue, our volunteers and our wider community supporters.”

So he called around some of his friends and members of his previous line-ups through the years to find out who would be interested in forming a loose, relaxed Tex-Mex group for some impromptu gigs.
